Where in the World Can I Go?

The TRU Study Abroad Centre (SAC) currently manages
50 Bilateral Exchange programs, and is one of only three Canadian institutions with membership in the Washington, DC-based organization, the International Student Exchange Program. ISEP is an international consortium of exchange partners that provides over
100 additional exchange opportunities for TRU students..
So, to be clear, TRU operates
two types of exchange programs :
-
Bilateral (direct exchanges with a partner institution abroad) and
-
ISEP (exchange with the International Student Exchange Program)
Please browse both the bilateral and ISEP exchange opportunities available to TRU students listed by country, in the menu to the left.
Bilateral Exchange Program
Bilateral exchanges are the result of a "one to one" agreement between TRU and an institution abroad. Very often these agreements have compelling reasons behind them - research collaborations, faculty associations, program similartities, and so on. Currently TRU has 50 bilateral partners, with ongoing negotiations for additional opportunities.
International Student Exchange Program (ISEP)
ISEP is the world's largest network of post-secondary institutions cooperating to provide affordable international educational experiences for a diverse student population. Founded in 1979, ISEP has 260 members, including TRU, in 36 countries. More than 24,000 students have participated in ISEP programs.
TRU students have access to exchange opportunities at ISEP member-institutions, both in the United States and around the world. Please visit the
ISEP website for more information.
A few highlights about the ISEP program:
- Membership gives students access to over 60 international institutions and 50 in the USA.
- A TRU student creates an exchange place for a student from abroad to come to TRU.
- Fees are comparable to a usual semester or year at TRU.
- Meals and Accomodation are paid in advance to TRU - and then provided abroad by the host institution.
- ISEP offers a second type of study call ISEP Direct - fee based programs. TRU students should note ISEP Direct costs can be high, and students are encouraged to focus on ISEP Exchange.
- Canadian students are considered International students when researching institutions on the website.
- Great language opportunities.
- Great opportunties to study in the US.
- Many opportunties in France.
ISEP uses specific terminology. International to international programs refer to riciprocal exchanges outside of the United States and
TRU has a membership. ISEP Direct refers to fee paying semester programs. Some ISEP members offer only fee paying options or they offer both exchange and direct options. The reason for this is some destinations have more demand for exchange than they can supply but they will offer the chance to study based on paying tuition fees.
Each ISEP member has a profile which indicates your chances of being selected for exchange, courses they offer and the language of instruction.
You must contact the TRU Study Abroad office before you complete the application. The steps for an ISEP application are very similar to a bilateral application and begin with MANDATORY attendance at a Study Abroad Info Session. Sessions are offered throughout the semester and are posted on this website.
