globallyThis comprehensive 160-page resource was created for TRU faculty and staff members to use as a resource when working with international students. It also supports the intercultural workshops offered on campus.

This is the first edition of this resource. The objective is to share information, inspire dialogue, and generate additional ideas. We invite feedback and contributions.

TRU: A Globally Minded Campus-A Resource for Academic Departments is composed of 5 sections:

Part I:
International Diversity at TRU

• Provides a profile of the international student population
• Highlights the typical challenges international students may experience
• Includes feedback from the Canadian student experience with respect to internationalization

Part II:
Working with International Students

• Addresses issues instructors face when teaching nternational students
• Provides some theoretical constructs of culture to illustrate the basis of differences or conflicts that may be encountered
• Offers suggestions for facilitating multicultural, multilingual classrooms
• Explores methodological considerations for enhancing diversity and globally oriented perspectives

Part III:
Internationalization

• Provides a brief overview of the internationalization of Canadian institutes of higher education, including its impact and benefits
• Offers an overview of the role of TRU World—the International Department—and various internationalization initiatives at TRU

Part IV:
Supports for Students and Faculty

• Provides a comprehensive reference of institutional supports for international students—supports to which faculty members can refer students who require additional assistance
• Outlines supports for faculty members
