BEACH VOLLEYBALL PARTY
Friday, July 23, 2010

School's out for summer (well, almost!) so students took a break from exam prep to enjoy some fun in the sun. They bumped and spiked their way through some beach volleyball, took a dip in the river, played some tennis and then ate until they were stuffed from the amazing BBQ from the Lions Club. Not a bad way to beat the summer heat and relieve some stress of finals! Thanks to our volunteers, Yasir, Hayfaa, and Angelina for all of their help. See you all in the fall!!!

Sun Peaks isn't just for Winter fun!  Students took a break from Summer Session classes to enjoy a day amidst the alpine meadows.  After celebrating a special birthday, they hiked along the Vista trail, and some of them even climbed to the Top of the World!  Thanks to Angelina and Roman for lending a hand.  To find out more about Sun Peaks, visit www.sunpeaksresort.com.

HORSEBACK RIDING
Saturday, June 19, 2010

In true Western style, students and staff spent a day on the ranch, where they rode horses and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.  After getting geared up, they received instruction and hit the trails for a ride up above Pinantan Lake before coming back down for a BBQ lunch.  Visit www.jandanaranch.com for more information.  Thanks to Yasir and Hayfaa for all of their help!

HELL'S GATE & FRASER CANYON
Saturday, June 5, 2010

Try a journey to Vancouver through a region of BC rich in gold mining history.  Travel along the Thompson River to where it joins the Fraser River in a little town known as Canada's hotspot.  We stopped for a picnic lunch and outdoor activities at Kumsheen Rafting.  We didn't do any river rafting, but we did do a little "bus rafting".  Ask around to find out what "bus rafting" is.  Thanks Ahmed, Roman, and Yasir.  Our final destination: Hell's Gate Airtram.

Students and some staff took to the Thompson River for an evening of fun on the water.  Participants received dryland instruction from members of the Kamloops Dragon Boat Club, followed by some water drills and even a few races.  A recreational group hits the water on Thursdays at 6:15 PM.  If you are interested, visit their website at www.kamloopsdragonboatclub.ca.

Our first event for the summer semester really felt like summer was about to begin!! Bring the heat!!! We were lucky to have Eric Bojesen a member of the Kamloops Tennis Association provide us with excellent instruction. This was a great event for people to learn how to play tennis and for those that already know how to play tennis to get out and release some stress. Thank you to our committee volunteers. If you are interested in playing at their club visit their website www.kamloopstennis.ca

COSMIC BOWLING
Friday, March 5, 2010

The lights were out and lint could be seen on everyone. The bowling we have to offer in Kamloops is different - we used the small bowling balls to bring down the five pins - not the large super sized bowling balls to take out the 10 pins (typically seen in Fred Flintstone cartoons in North America). All of us enjoyed ourselves. Take a peak for yourself.

We were a small group who embarked upon the Orchard Park Mall with excitement and shopping goals.  I don't think there was one store in the mall we missed stopping in (maybe the quilting store???).  On everyone's return to the bus at the end of the day, I believe all shopping goals were met, with a few commenting on finding special items!  Thank you Micaela and Maria for all of your help during this event.

When the weather is hot and muggy in BC, all a person needs to do to cool off is play in the water.

Our small but fun group had a great time playing around in the water at Vernon's water slides "Atlantis". When preparing our group for our return trip home, all I can say is that no one wanted to leave! All everyone wanted to do was keep on playing! Thank you Anna Maria and Salman for your help with this event!

Our group enjoyed a great day up at Jandana Ranch once again, and we had the opportunity to learn the basic skills of horsemanship.  I believe everyone came away from the day feeling more confident with horses.  Plus, with the beautiful country setting and friendly animals, we could not have asked for a better day!

ISAP would like to thank Tsungai and Salman for all of their help! Plus, a special thank you to Hilda...which we always appreciate her help.

TRU SURVIVORS
Thursday, April 9, 2009

TRU Survivors this year had teams facing all of the elements: water, wind, earth and FIRE!  Teams had to think "strategically" and "slow down" to complete each challenge.  Take a look at the photos and see for yourself the fun had by all.  This event truly could not have taken place without the time donated by TRU staff, faculty, students, and administration!  Thank you from the TRU Survivor Committee.

OKANAGAN WINE TOUR 2009 is a great event to learn more about the surrounding regions here in British Columbia.  Our group was small, but we had a great time visiting three great wineries in Kelowna: Quail's Gate, Summerhill Estate and Cedar Creek.  At each location our hosts welcomed and shared details about the wine making process and tips to enjoying wine.  Thank you Mi Dya and Lolita for all of your help with this event.

Seven mountains to be climbed - located in seven different places around the world and they were all "climbed creatively" by a enthusiastic group of students.  Cliffside Climbing gym was where we embarked on this great adventure and Anna Maria Viaud took on the challenge of coordinating this virtual climbing extravaganza!

Look out Team Canada, we have discovered some curling talent at TRU.  Following our curling instruction by Stan, all of our teams managed to challenge each other to test their new learned skills.  Plus the names each team came up with was awesome:  Chix with Sticks, Destroyers, Jordan's Angels, and lastly The Wonderbrushers (my personal favourite).  A big thank you to Rutendo and Andrea for all of their help.

Sun Peaks was great. As always, students could be seen zipping down the hill laughing with big grins on their faces. Lee Anne, Kari and I couldn't get over how great a group we had on this event. Plus, how the cold weather stayed away and the temperatures weren't too low/cold for all of us to enjoy the day.

I would like to thank Andrea and Veronica for all of their help during this event ~ It was really appreciated.

TRU FALL FAIR - Friday, September 2, 2008

The TRU Fall Fair was a blast. The performances, dancing, prizes, games....everything was awesome. Some of the most memorable moments for me were seeing a chicken run across the dance floor and the Kamloops Mounted Patrol sitting high on their beautiful horses outside Independent Centre. Take a look at the photos to see if you can find your smiling face!

CANOEING & KAYAKING (July 24, 2008)

We came, we saw and we canoed everywhere.  We had a great time paddling and kayaking around Shumway Lake, which is located approximately 20 minutes south of Kamloops.  It was a perfect way to enjoy our beautiful hot summers here in British Columbia.

We would like to thank Osama and his brother Anas for all of their help with rounding up our troops.

On behalf of Lee Anne and Kari, I want to thank all of you for making all of our events this summer so much fun.

CLIMBING & EARL'S  (July 11, 2008)

Climbing was awesome.  The great things from the event that stand out in my mind were that the girls took on the guys.  Simon, the owner of Cliffside donated 5 free passes and we had just a great time hanging out on a Friday afternoon.  Special thanks to Muteb for his health and support during this event.
