TRU’s Role at the 2008 Beijing Olympics

TRU knows that Olympics don’t happen without massive amounts of infrastructural planning and work. Our School of Tourism provided specialized training for 100 site managers from the China Network Communications Corporation in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. CNC is the largest telecom in China and was the official telecommunications provider for the Beijing Games.

The TRU team delivered intensive courses in English as a Second Language, customer service, intercultural communications, and event support and emergency response. The entire program was been customized for telecommunications managers, and featured specialized vocabulary and other course content specific to the internationalized delivery of voice, data, and other telecom services.

This training opportunity emerged from TRU’s strong tourism programs. The faculty and students of the university’s School of Tourism have targeted expertise in the sector, including event management and sports event management in particular.
