Olympian and TRU Chancellor

olympicchampiongreene

Nancy Greene Raine wasn’t always TRU’s chancellor and a Canadian senator. For most of her career she was better known as Canada’s foremost ski racer and Olympian. She won gold and silver medals at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics and World Cup titles in 1968. Her total of 13 World Cup victories stands as a Canadian record.

Nancy went on to play a key role in the development of the internationally renowned Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort before becoming the director of skiing at the Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops.

Nancy Greene Raine was named Canada’s female athlete of the century in 1999. She became the first chancellor of Thompson Rivers University in 2005 and brings her Olympian spirit to everything she does.

“As visiting students learn about Canada’s languages, customs, and people, Canadian students gain cultural knowledge and forge intercultural friendships through interaction in and out of the classroom with their international peers. Thompson Rivers University also reaches out to the world’s communities, delivering training and managing development projects throughout the globe. These initiatives have given our university a vibrant international profile and reputation.”
