Educational Leadership and Teacher Training
TRU has emerged as an international centre for educational leadership and teacher training. The university delivers customized programs for several hundred trainees each year, often in cooperation with local school districts and/or other educational partners. These trainees undertake intensive studies, both in English
language and in teaching techniques, at the TRU campus in Kamloops.
They also participate in a range of cultural exchange and recreational
opportunities.
In June 2001, TRU signed a Protocol of Cooperation with
China’s State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), and
now a leading Canadian provider of training services for SAFEA, having
trained more than 2,000 teachers from China—including 850 from Shanghai
alone—in recent years. In addition, TRU recently trained another 135
teachers in Chile in partnership with the Municipality of Vina del Mar.

Educational Leadership and Executive Training
Drawing upon its
international project expertise as well as a well-established School of
Business, TRU designs and delivers specialized training programs for
managers and executives. Currently, TRU trainers are hosting multiple
groups of educators and school principals for English language
upgrading and executive leadership training. As with many of TRU's
specialized programs, these trainees participate in a range of
recreational and cultural exchange activities—including, in some cases,
professional placements with Canadian educators—and benefit from a wide
range of accommodation options and support services. Executive training
clients at TRU include the Haidan Education District and the Xuhui
District Government, both of the People's Republic of China.
